Water level in flood-affected areas of J&K continues to recede; Health Ministry dispatches medical teams and medicines

Over 1.25 lakh people have been rescued from the flood-affected parts of Jammu and Kashmir. Armed Forces personnel are distributing water bottles and food packets on a large scale in the flood-affected areas.

According to Defence Spokesman, more relief materials including blankets, water bottles and food packets are being airlifted from Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Patna, Amritsar and Chandigarh. So far, 1,379 sorties were undertaken by the helicopters and aircraft of Armed Forces and about 1800 tonnes of relief materials were dropped by the Indian Air Force.

In view of the loss and damage due to natural clamity, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appealed to the citizens to generously donate to the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund. In an appeal, Mr Modi said, people can send their contributions by cheque, draft and cash in the name of Prime Minister's National Relief Fund and send the same to the Prime Minister's Office, South Block, New Delhi-1.

Union Finance Ministry has released installments due worth 865 crore rupees in advance to J & K government. These installments were released to bailout the State government that is facing unprecedented flood situation.

The Health Ministry has sent over 100 tonnes of medicines and other supplies besides teams of doctors and experts to flood-affected Jammu and Kashmir. An official statement said, a 20-member clinical team comprising physicians, pediatricians and reproductive health specialists have been deployed in Srinagar, adding that a 10-member team has been there since the 10th of September.

Two water purification plants each having a capacity of purifying around 50,000 litres per day and six small water purification units along with operators have been dispatched Friday from Delhi by Air Force planes.

Delhi Metro has set up a help desk at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in the national capital to assist and guide Jammu and Kashmir flood victims returning to the city. The facilitation counter-cum-help desk has been put in place at Terminal- 3 of the airport.
