Water level in Bhakhra and Pong Dams is down this year as compared to last year’s level. According to the Bhakhra Beas Management Board (BBMB) sources, water level of Bhakhra Dam was 1535 feet today while it was 1597 feet on this day last year. The water level in Pong Dam was recorded 1290 feet today while it was 1351 feet last year. Official sources said that water level is decreasing due to non-melting of snow at higher peaks and lack of rains till now in the catchments areas of river Satluj and Beas. Power generation has been affected due to reducing water level. Punjab Government has also decided to release water on a weekly basis for irrigation.
