Water is most important subject for the country: Gadkari

Union Minister for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping, Nitin Gadkari has said that water is the most important subject for the country, but unfortunately the least research has been done on it. He was speaking in New Delhi after releasing a book "Optimal Utilization of Godavari Waters-National and Telangana Perspectives", written by the renowned water expert, Sriram Vedire, Adviser, Ministry of Water Resources and Chairman, Rajasthan River Basin Authority.

Mr Gadkari said 70 percent of rain water goes waste in the country and only 15 percent of it is being conserved. The remaining 15 percent goes to lakes and other water bodies. He said water can change the fate of rural economy. He said government will implement a lot of programmes suggested in the book.

Union Minister for Water Resources, Uma Bharati and union minister for Labour and Employment Bandru Dattatreya were also present on the occasion.
