Water crisis deepens in the country due to increasing demand for water

The water crisis has deepened in the country due to increasing demand for water.

In a written reply in the Lok Sabha today, Minister for Parliamentry Affairs and Water Resources Pawan Kumar Bansal said that population growth, urbanization and changing life style, inefficient use of water and inequitable distribution are main reasons for the increasing demand of water.

He said state governments have taken several steps for augmentation, conservation and efficient management of water resources.

Mr. Bansal said that in order to supplement the efforts of the state governments, the centre is providing technical and financial assistance to them to encourage sustainable development and efficient management of water resources through various schemes and programmes.
