A prestigious Washington-based think-tank has established a chair in US-India policy studies that will assess strategic issues and major policies of bilateral importance. It will also pursue modifications in policies and strategies to strengthen the relationship.The Center for Strategic & International Studies, CSIS has established the Wadhwani Chair, supported by the Wadhwani Foundation.Karl F Inderfurth, the former US assistant secretary of state for South Asian affairs, will serve as the inaugural chair holder. a statement said.John Hamre, CSIS president and CEO, said the US-India relationship is one of America's most strategically important partnerships of the twenty-first century.A statement said, the Wadhwani Chair will serve as an independent platform in Washington from which to assess major policies and strategic issues in the relationship between India and theUnited States. It will place special emphasis on policies to accelerate economic development in India, with a wide-ranging agenda including economics, energy security, climate change, regional security and India's role in the world.
