War of words on article 370 escalates between J&K based parties & Centre

Main regional parties in Jammu and Kashmir, National Conference and PDP have termed the statement of union Minister of State Dr. Jitender Singh on scraping of article 370 as dangerous and condemnable.

Chief Minister Omer Abdullah told media in Srinagar that any tampering with Article 370 will not strengthen relationship between the centre and the state but will rather further push the people of state to isolation.

The president of PDP, Mehbooba Mufti, condemning the statement of Jitender Singh has said that any such step has potential of dividing the state on religious lines. She asked for restrain from such rhetoric on sensitive issue.

Meanwhile, Congress has criticized the statements of the Minister of State in Prime Minister Office Jitendra Singh on Article 370, which grants special status to Jammu and Kashmir. Mr Singh had said that the BJP led NDA government is ready to have a debate on Article 370.

Briefing reporters in New Delhi today party spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi said, the divisive agenda of the BJP has come to fore. He said, the matter has only been raised to politicize the issue and polarizing voters in view of upcoming Assembly elections.

Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh leader Ram Madhav has said that Minister of State in Prime Minister Office Dr. Jitendra Singh's views to have a debate on Article 370 should be seen in positive light. He was talking to reporters in New Delhi today.

Earlier Union Cabinet Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that government will take a structured view on the subject at an appropriate time.
