War of words between BJP & Cong. on Sugar prices

The BJP accused Agriculture and Food Minister Sharad Pawar of making a mess of the food economy of the country and said he is shifting blame on the Prime Minister and the cabinet. Talking to reporters in New Delhi today, party spokesman Mr Ravishankar Prasad said that the Prime Minister and UPA Chairperson should react to this. Demanding an inquiry into the food procurement business, he said the government had claimed bumper production of wheat and rice over the past two years but the prices of these commodities have shot up.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, defending the Agriculture Minister for his statement on shared responsibility for rise in sugar prices, the Congress today said that he has only presented the constitutional position. Talking to reporters in New Delhi today, party spokesman Mr Shakil Ahmed said that price rise is a collective responsibly of central government and ministries along with the state governments. Saying that the party wants the center and states to work together in controlling prices, he called for more action from the state governments. Mr Pawar had yesterday said that the Prime Minister along and the whole Cabinet holds the responsibility for the price rise.
