War Crimes Investigation agency seeks arrest warrant against senior BNP leader

In Bangladesh, the War Crimes investigation agency has filed a petition on Wednesday with the International Crimes Tribunal seeking an arrest warrant against senior BNP leader Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury. The agency has filed the petition seeking an order from the tribunal to detain Mr. Chowdhury for his alleged involvement in the killing of Nutan Chandra who was the founder of a famous herbal medicine factory on April 13, 1971 and many others during the Liberation War in 1971.The tribunal will hear the petition on Sunday. Meanwhile the Bangladesh High Court on Wednesday rejected a petition filed by Jamaat-E Islami Chief Motiur Rahman Nizami challenging the International Crimes Tribunal proceedings against him in connection with 1971 crimes against humanity. The Jamaat-E-Islami chief along with four other leaders were arrested earlier in the year to face trial proceedings by the war crimes tribunal for their alleged involvement in the atrocities committed during the 1971 war of Liberation.
