In Tamil Nadu, the DMK party has urged the centre not to extend support to Sri Lanka when a resolution, calling for a probe into war crimes and genocide of Tamils during the final stages of war against LTTE, is to be put to vote at the UN Human Rights convention. In a statement issued in Chennai today, the party president Mr. M. Karunanidhi recalled the resolution passed at the DMK high level committee meeting in April last year demanding that those guilty of war crimes should be punished. He said a UN Panel report which was released recently had stated that during the final stages of the war, more than 40,000 innocent Tamils were killed.
