Walmart, Benetton fail to attend ILO meet to aid B'desh workers hit by factory disasters

International clothing manufacturers have failed to agree on the creation of a compensation fund for hundreds of victims of two factory disasters in Bangladesh. Only a third of the retailers who used the factories, turned up for a two-day meeting on the issue in Geneva. Companies that failed to attend for a variety of reasons, included Walmart and Benetton.The Geneva talks, chaired by the International Labour Organisation, are aimed at setting up funds to compensate victims of the two fatal industrial disasters in Bangladesh. Trade Unions say, many families of those killed are struggling to survive and need urgent help.
