Wall Street ended sharply higher yesterday as investors focused on today's midterm elections that will determine control of Congress, while shares of Meta Platforms jumped on a report of job cuts at the Facebook parent.

The Nasdaq Composite gained 1.3 per cent, S&P 500 rose one per cent and the Dow Jones Industrial Average index added 0.9 per cent.
