The West Bengal government on Friday proposed merger of State Transport Corporations to curb huge loss making business. The Chief Minsiter Mamta Banerjee gave this proposal at a high level meeting of different transport Corporation Chiefs and various trade unions in Kolkata Friday afternoon.Quoting the Chief Minister, the state transport Minister Mr. Madan Mitra said that the decision of the merger will be finalised by the five transport corporations and employees of trade unions. Mr. Mitra said that no employee will be retrenched from service if the proposal is implemented. Mr. Mitra said that the Chief Minister instructed the heads of the corporations to send their suggestions on revival of the sick transport organisations and submit their asset proportions to the government within 15 days.AIR correspondent reports that the meeting decided to clear backlog salaries and pensions to the employees beside, commercial utilisation of transport infrastructure to generate more income.
