VP's visit to focus on strengthening relations with African nations

The Vice President, Mr Mohammed Hamid Ansari is leaving on a week long visit to Zambia, Botswana and Malawi on Tuesday. Signing an agreement to enhance funding of a hydro power project and ways to strengthen trade ties with African countries will be the highlight of his visit. Briefing reporters on the visit, the Secretary(West) in the Ministry of External Affairs, Mr Vivek Katju said that an agreement for a Line of Credit to a hydro power project in Zambia will be signed. <br/><br/>He said, agreeements in the sectors like agriculture, health and power are also expected to be signed during the visit of the African countries. Describing India's relations with the African countries as multi-facted and mutually beneficial, Mr Katju said that the visit will focus on promoting trade relations with the Afrcian region. Our correspondent covering the Vice President's visit reports that the discussions with the African Union Commission on enhancing trade and partnership with the African nations will be at the centre of discussions during the visit.
