VP's visit to focus on strengthening relations with African nations

Strengthening of relations with African Nations will be the focus of Vice President Mohd Hamid Ansari's week long visit to the region. Briefing reporters on the visit beginning on tuesday Secretary Ministry of external affairs, Vivek Katju said that Mr Ansari will visit Zambia, Malawi and Botswana in a bid to provide momentum to relationships with these countries. <br/><br/>Mr Katju said India would provide help in agriculture, health and education sectors to these nations. Mr Ansari is scheduled to meet top leaders of these countries to give a new thrust to the economic relations . <br/><br/>Minister of state for labour Mr Harish Rawat and a high level delegation is accompanying the vice president. The delegation includes three members of Parliament and some top business magnets.<br/><br/>The objective of the Vice President's visit is clear. On the one hand it will strengthen partnership with the African nations in the Hydocarbon sector where Indian industry has made considerable investments, on the other the cooperation in the field of gems and jewellery will get a new boost as India has emerged an attractive destination for the African countries. New Delhi has been regularly extending support to these countries in the areas of agriculture, health and education and the present visit is bound to give a new impetus to these initiatives. This will not only enhance the trade and business cooperation with these countries but also increase contacts among the professionals with the focus on information and technology sector.
