The President Mrs Pratibha Devisingh Patil was today greeted by Vice President Mohammed Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and Lok Sabha Speaker Mrs Meira Kumar on New Year day. The Prime Minister and the Vice President were also accompanied by their spouses. Rashtrapati Bhavan was agog with activity as people from different walks of life and children visited and conveyed their wishes to Mrs Patil. She welcomed the new year at the sprawling premises for the first time since she took over as the head of the state three years ago. Mrs Patil had earlier canceled her annual retreat to Nilayam in Hyderabad, with Rashtrapati Bhavan saying it had been deferred due to official engagements in the national capital.
