Vice President Mr Hamid Ansari today expressed concern over the high drop out rate of children at elementary level. Addressing a function to celebrate National Education Day in New Delhi, Mr Ansari said that over 43 percent students in the country do not complete their primary education. He also emphasized on the need to improve quality of education especially in government schools in rural areas where half of children are three grade levels behind in terms of outcome and achievement. Praising the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, Mr Ansari however said that quality of education should be maintained along with ensuring access to education. Human Resource and Development Minister Mr Kapil Sibal said that there is need to transform the education system to make it child centric instead of exam centric.
