VP Ansari to lead Indian delegation to ASEM Summit in Mongolia

Vice President Mohammed Hamid Ansari will lead the Indian delegation to the 11th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Summit at Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia. The Summit is scheduled to be held from 14 to 16 July. Briefing the media persons in New Delhi today, the Secretary East in the Ministry of External Affairs, Preeti Sharan said that the ASEM Summit assumes special importance in view of 20th anniversary of the dialogue forum. She said that the theme for this biannual Summit is "20 Years of ASEM: Partnership for the Future through Connectivity". <br/><br/>The Secretary said that India's efforts would be inclined towards more successful outcomes through resilient and multidimensional connectivity between Asia and Europe. Mrs Sharan said that the Vice President will also hold bilateral meetings with participating leaders including host Mongolia on the sidelines of the Summit. <br/><br/><br/>She said that India's thrust will be on constructive partnership and exchange under the key pillars of political dialogue, economic collaboration and socio-cultural exchanges. Secretary East said that India enjoys strategic partnership with Mongolia and intends to strengthen it in the field of Defence, Security and capacity building. <br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports that the ASEM comprises of 53 entities including 51 member countries, European Union and the ASEAN Secretariat. It represents around 62 percent of the world's population, 57 percent of the global GDP and almost 60 percent of the world's trade.
