Voting underway to elect next Vice President of India

Voting is underway to elect the next Vice President of India. It is being held in Parliament House. It started at 10 a.m. and will end at 5 p.m. There are only two candidates in the fray. UPA candidate Mohd. Hamid Ansari is pitted against the NDA nominee Jaswant Singh. Counting of votes will be taken up this evening. The incumbent Vice President Mohd. Hamid Ansari completes his tenure on Friday.
A total of 788 Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs are eligible to vote in the poll to elect the 14th Vice President of India. The Vice-President is elected by the members of the Electoral College consisting of the members of both Houses of Parliament.
