Voting underway in National Assembly of Pakistan to elect next Prime Minister

Voting in the Pakistan National Assembly to elect the new Prime Minister is to be held today following last month's elections that produced a split mandate, according to the National Assembly Secretariat. Shehbaz Sharif, 72, is the consensus candidate of the PML-N and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). He submitted his nomination yesterday. His closest contender Omar Ayub Khan of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) also filed his papers yesterday ahead of today's election.<br />''<br />''<span style="color: #222222;">The winning candidate will be administered the oath of office tomorrow at the Presidential mansion, Aiwan-e-Sadr.</span>
