The voting is taking place today in Turkey on constitutional reforms under which 26 amendments have been proposed. The ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), has said that it wants to bring the constitution more in line with European Union, which will also strengthen Turkish democracy. But opposition blames that ruling party is seeking the control over the judiciary. The ruling AKP party has clashed repeatedly with Turkey's highest courts and party narrowly avoided being outlawed by the Constitutional Court in 2008 for allegedly undermining Turkey's secular system.
