In Tamil Nadu, voting in the bye- elctions at Tiruchendur and Vandavasi constituencies passed off peacefully on Saturday. Tiruchendur recorded 77 per cent polling and Vandavasi 73.8 per cent.<br/>Election commission made arrangements for live recording of the entire poll proceedings at all the 196 polling stations in Tiruchendur and 217 polling stations in Vandavasi Constituencies. Sim cards were provided to booth level officers for poll monitoring through SMS.<br/>By election to the Tiruchendur Assembly seat was necessitated after the resignation of Anitha R.Radhakrishnan, who defected from the AIADMK to the ruling DMK. The death of DMK MLA Jayaraman has caused the vacancy in Vandavasi reserved constituency and his son was fielded by the DMK there.
