<span style="color: #222222;">Bye-Elections were held in two Parliamentary seats and 51 Assembly seats across 17 states today, apart from assembly elections in Maharashtra and Haryana. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">In Uttar Pradesh, polling for 11 Assembly seats during the bye-elections in the state completed peacefully. AIR Correspondent reports that barring some incidents of glitches in EVMs, overall polling was peaceful in the bye-elections in the state. Heavy security arrangements were in place on all the polling centres of 11 seats. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">In the morning, polling was a little slow but as the day progressed people came out in large numbers to cast their votes. Especially at Gangoh seat in Saharanpur, people were very enthusiastic in using their franchise where polling per cent was also highest in the state. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Voter turnout was quite low at Lucknow Cantonment constituency where it recorded around 28 per cent, almost half compared to average 50 per cent in last two Assembly elections. A total of 109 candidates were in the fray for 11 Assembly seats. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">This time there were four-cornered contests on all seats where BJP, Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party and Congress have fielded their candidates. Today's polling will decide the fate of some prominent contestants including Tanzeem Fatima, wife of SP leader Azam Khan and Tanuj Punia, son of Congress leader P L Punia. Out of these 11, BJP had won nine while SP and BSP got one seat each in last Assembly elections. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">In Tamil Nadu, the bye-election was held peacefully in two Assembly seats today. Vikkiravandi in the northern part of the state recorded 84.36 per cent of votes, which is 3.11 per cent more as compared to the Assembly General Elections held on May 2016.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">In Nanguneri seat in the southern part of the state, 66.1 per cent of the electors have cast their votes, which is 5.82 per cent less as compared to 2016 election.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">The State Chief Electoral Officer Satyabrata Sahoo told reporters this evening that the polling was peaceful and the incidences of failure of EVMs and VVPATS were minimal. He said, the faulty devices were immediately replaced and polling went on in a streamlined manner. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">In Arunachal Pradesh, 89.2 per cent polling was recorded in the Khonsa (West) Assembly by-poll today. Joint Chief Election Officer D J Bhattacharjee informed that polling was conducted under tight security and was by and large peaceful. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">The bye-election witnessed a straight fight between two independent candidates, Smt. Chakat Aboh and Azet Hamtok. The counting of votes will be held on October 24.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">In Puducherry, an estimated 69.44 per cent of the over 35 thousand and 9 voters exercised their franchise in Kamaraj Nagar Assembly bye-election held today.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">A total number of 24,310 voters (11,695 male,12,614 female voters along with one trans-gender person came out to fulfil the democratic responsibility.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">The Polling was peaceful except for a stray incident when the opposition parties put up a road blockade demanding action against Congress candidate John Kumar for allegedly giving tokens to the voters to give money later.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">This election will decide the electoral fortunes of nine candidates participating in the electoral contest which was necessitated following the resignation of Congress member V Vaithilingam who successfully contested the last Lok Sabha elections.</span><br />
