Voting for Anantnag LS seat in Kashmir underway amidst boycott calls

In Kasmir valley, polling in Anantnag parliamentary constituency is going on smoothly amid a shutdown and boycott call by separatists.

Our correspondent reports that voter turnout in the initial four hours of polling was low but it is now picking up in rural areas.

He adds that amid very high security arrangements and a shutdown call by separatists, polling has been by and large peaceful and orderly so far.

The voter turnout though has been low in the initial hours partly due to fear caused by killing of two sarpanchs and village head by militants.

just days before polling. Iin many rural areas polling is now picking up as long queues are seen in Noorabad.Pahalgam and Kokernag areas.

The scene though has been mixed in the four districts comprising the constituency.
