Voting for 20 seats of FNC in UAE begins today

In United Arab Emirates, the voting for the 20 seats of Federal National council (FNC) is taking place across the country on Saturday. 468 candidates including a record number of 85 women are contesting in this second election in the history of the FNC. Nearly one lakh thirty thousand electorate will cast their votes and 16 per cent of the voters are women. The first Federal National Council elections were held in 2006. The Federal National Council (FNC) is a group of 40 representatives, out of which eight each represent Abu Dhabi and Dubai, six each from Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah, and four each from Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. The electoral college of each emirate will elect half the members of the FNC from the respective emirate, while the Ruler of the Emirate will nominate the remaining half.
