The Election Commission of India has decided to allow voters to exercise their franchise based on their Electoral Photo Identity Card in the bye-elections to be held on 12th next month in Andhra Pradesh. Addressing a press conference after reviewing bye-election preparations in Hyderabad this evening, Election Commissioner H S Brahma said only EPICs will be used as ID proof as cent percent EPIC distribution was achieved in the state. However, he said the voters’ slips to be distributed by the election authorities will be allowed as voter identity.He said the entire polling process will be web-casted from all the 5405 polling stations in 12 districts of the state in the bye-elections.Stating that the Election Commission will take tough action against those who appeal voters through religion, cast and community, he said it will attract even disqualification.Meanwhile, 11 nominations have been filed so far following issuance of notification for the bye-elections today. Bye-elections will be held on 12th next month for Nellore Lok Sabha and 18 Assembly Constituencies in the state.
