Voluntary Compliance Encouragement scheme to cover service tax evaders

The government has decided to introduce the Voluntary Compliance Encouragement Scheme 2013 to cover service tax evaders. To boost the collection of service tax, surveys have been conducted to identify potential payers who have otherwise been evading service tax. Finance Minister P. Chidambaram informed the Lok Sabha today that cases are booked against unregistered service providers and defaulters.He said, for the current fiscal 2013-14, the target of service tax collection has been fixed at one lakh, eighty thousand and one hundred forty one crore rupees. As per the provisional figures, service tax collection in the last financial year was over one lakh, thirty two thousand crore rupees, Mr. Chidambaram said
