Visually impaired seek filling of backlog vacancies

The National Federation of the Blind has urged the government to launch a special drive to fill up all backlog vacancies reserved for persons with disabilities. Briefing reporters in New Delhi today, the General Secretary of Federation, Mr S.K Rungta said that the disabilities act providing for three per cent government jobs for the disabled is not being implemented as a result there is a huge backlog of vacancies meant for them. He accused the government of being insensitive to their demands, who instead of carrying out the Delhi high court order to fill the vacancies, decided to move the Supreme Court. Mr. Rungta said He said that the Federation will launch a nationwide agitation from 19th of this month to press for the special recruitment drive by all departments in a time bound manner to fill up the backlog of vanacies since 1996.
