Visually impaired people court arrested in Delhi

Hundreds of visually impaired people today courted arrest in the national capital. They were protesting against the slow progress in filling up of the reserved backlog vacancies for persons with visual disability and the delay in amendments to the Disabilities Act on the occasion of World Disabled Day. The protest was organised by National Federation of the Blind. General secretary of the Federation, Mr S K Rungta told AIR that the protest will continue till the goverment gives them a concrete assurance.Every year third of December is observed as International Day of Persons with Disabilities to spread awareness about disability issues, the fundamental rights of persons with disabilities and integration of persons with disabilities with the main stream community. Various programmes including discussions and campaigns are organised across the country on this day.
