Visiting Canadian PM Stephen Harper to hold talks with PM tomorrow

Visiting Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper will hold talks with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi tomorrow.

AIR Correspondent reports, the two leaders are expected to hold discussions on civil nuclear cooperation and ways to step up bilateral trade and economic ties between the two countries.

After delegation level talks, India and Canada will also ink agreements for enhancing cooperation in vital sectors of the economy.

The visiting dignitary will be accorded a ceremonial welcome at the forecourts of Rashtrapati Bhavan Tuesday morning. Mr. Stephen Harper who is on a six-day visit to India, reached New Delhi on Monday afternoon after having arrived in Agra on Sunday.

Official spokesperson in the Ministry of External Affairs said, the two sides hope to take forward the 2010 India-Canada nuclear deal apart from finding ways to boost cooperation in key bilateral areas.

AIR correspondent reports the presence of separatist elements in Canada is also likely to figure during the talks.

On trade front, India and Canada are also negotiating a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement to take economic ties to the next level.

During his visit the Canadian Prime minister besides meeting President Pranab Mukherjee, will also hold discussions with Vice President, Md. Hamid Ansari, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Ms. Sushma Swaraj and the MOS External Affairs, Ms. Praneet Kaur.
