New Delhi has said that the visit of the General Officer Commanding-in- Chief Northern Command, Lieutenant General B.S. Jaswal to Beijing did not take place due to certain reasons. A spokesman of External Affairs Ministry said in New Delhi today that India is continuing dialogue with China to be sensitive to each other's concerns. Referring to a newspaper report, the spokesman said, New Delhi values its exchanges with Beijing as the two countries have multifaceted and complex relationship. In response to a question he said, the interaction between the two countries has been growing in a number of areas including defence. He added that there were useful defence exchanges at various levels in the recent past. Newspaper reports said that India has cancelled defence exchanges with China after Beijing refused to allow the visit of the General Jaswal.Both ruling Congress and the BJP today strongly reacted to the denial of visa by China to the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Northern Command. The Congress party spokesman Manish Tewari urged the External Affairs ministry to take up the issue at the appropriate level with the Chinese authorities. The BJP has also strongly criticized the Chinese approach on the issue. Party spokesman Prakash Javdekar charged China for fishing in Kashmir which is an integral part of India.
