The government says contours of a political solution to the Kashmir problem are likely to emerge in the next few months. Addressing a Parliamentary Consultative Committee, Home Minister P Chidambaram said that the situation in Jammu and Kashmir has improved considerably after the Centre announced the 8 point Plan for the region. The minister also appreciated the work done by the group of interlocutors appointed for Jammu and Kashmir. Responding to suggestions made by the members of the Committee, Mr Chidambaram informed that two special task forces have been constituted to meet the development needs of people of Jammu and Ladakh region respectively. The Home Minister said that visible presence of security forces in the region needs to be reduced. He added that violence perpetrated by militants and infiltrators must be dealt in a strong and resolute manner. Mr Chidambaram said that till 6th of this month a total of over five lakh fifty thousand tourists had visited the valley which is 25 percent more than last year. He also termed the Amarnath Yatra as the most peaceful yatras ever conducted.
