India's Vishnu Vardhan succumbed to an unfortunate loss in the first round of the 2012 Chennai Open on Tuesday. Vardhan lost 6-4, 6-7, 1-6 to fifth-seeded Ivan Dodig of Croatia. Wild card entrant Vardhan did well to clinch the opening set 6-4. But in a drastic turn of events, failed to convert five match points in the second set to slump to a defeat. Compatriot Yuki Bhambri won his first round tie on Monday after he stunned Karol Beck 6-2, 6-3. India's tennis ace Somdev Devvarman was forced to pull out of the tournament after he was advised rest for his shoulder injury.
