Visa renewal: Indians in Gulf need protection says Minister

Union Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs, Mr. Vayalar Ravi, has said that there is a need to ensure that Indians working in the Gulf countries are well protected and do not face any problems related to visa renewal. Speaking at the Dubai International Financial Centre Conference in Mumbai, Mr. Ravi said that some employers in UAE deliberately delay visa renewal of Indian workers thus making them illegal occupants in that country. He added that the Labour Department of the UAE Government has been very co-operative and is looking into specific instances to protect Indian workers. Also in an effort to attract foreign investment, the Minister said that India has not been affected by the global meltdown and continues to remain the best destination for foreign investors who would be rewarded by higher returns. The Minister invited investments from Gulf countries especially in sectors of infrastructure, energy security, education and healthcare sectors.<br/>
