There are reports of violent demonstrations in the Libyan city of Benghazi. Witnesses said the protests were triggered by the arrest of a critic of the government. At one stage, the witnesses said some two thousand people were involved. Stones were thrown at the police who responded with water cannon, tear gas and rubber bullets.
