Reports of unabated poll related violence last night and today have been received from West Bengal. Eight houses of CPI-M supporters were ransacked at Kamche village in Goghat area of Hooghly district today, allegedly by TMC attackers. Locals claimed that women and children were also beaten during the attack. RAF contingents rushed to the area and brought the situation under control. Tension prevails in the area. <br/><br/>SDPO Goghat is camping in the village.<br/>Clashes between CPI-M and TMC supporters occurred late last night at various places on the south-eastern periphery of Kolkata. TMC activists allegedly attacked and damaged 7 houses belonging to CPM supporters in Baghajatin-Patuli areas beating inmates. The locals alleged that at least 90 supporters of the ruling party reached the area on motorcycles and mobilized the attack. Two TMC activists were badly beaten, 1 each in Kasba and at Canning Paschim by the Left supporters. The Kasba office of CPI-M was vandalized this morning and an office attendant stripped. <br/><br/>In the afternoon today, a local CPI-M leader was beaten with iron rods and lathis at Englishbazar in Maldah. TMC leaders denied their party-men's involvement in this attack. <br/>Meanwhile, TMC chairperson and Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee's warning to state Police officers against siding with the Central forces and conducting voting in curfew-like terrorized situation has elicited strong criticism from the Opposition.<br/><br/>BJP leader Jaiprakash Mazumdar said, Mamata's statement is nothing but a senseless indulgence of a defeated leader. By this stand Mamata has only endorsed the people's observation that her is a defeating side, said Mazumdar.<br/><br/>CPI-M leader and MP, Mohammad Salim said the TMC leader by her statement again proved that she does not believe in democratic norms that enable people to cast vote freely and peacefully. Congress leader, Abdul Mannan said Ms. Banerjee is infuriated because she has not been able to conduct these polls as the grossly rigged civic elections held last year.<br/><br/><br/>Addressing election rallies in Purba Medinipur last evening, Ms. Banerjee had criticized the Election Commission and the role of Central forces in the ongoing elections. Alleging that they were acting to help CPI-M, Congress and BJP in looting the votes, Mamata warned the Police officers that their siding with the Central forces is being monitored by her and they will not be spared afterwards.
