In Darjeeling, large scale violence broke out in the hills on Thursday following raid by security forces at the resident of Bimal Gurung, the leader of the Gorkha Janamukti Morcha in Darjeeling city on Thursday morning. Several police vehicles were burnt by Morcha supporters after their clash with the security force. <br/><br/>A van of a media house was also torched. Police resorted to lathi charge and firing of tear gas shells to bring the situation under control. Several security personal were injured in the incident. Our correspondent reports that violence also irrupted in other parts of the hills particularly in Kuerseong and Kalimpong. Agitators attacked tourist lodge, government offices and police stations. Buses on the roads were set on fire and within a short time the hills took a deserted look. While Morcha leaders blamed security personnel's high handed approach for all the troubles, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said in Kolkata this evening that only a handful of anti-socials are trying to create disruptions in the hills. She asserted that her government is determined to tackle these elements with strong hands.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, Union Minister and MP from Darjeeling, S. S. Ahluwalia today met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi to discuss the latest situation in Darjeeling. Quoting sources, our Kolata correspondent reports that some leaders of Gorkha Mukti Morcha were also present in the meeting.<br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports that Darjeeling returns back to square one as violence again erupted in the hills remanding the large scale unrest of yesteryears. Situation took a drastic turn this morning when security force went to raid the residence of the Morch leader, Bimal Gurung. The news went like a wild fire and hundreds of women members of the Morcha stormed the Patlabus area and fought pitched battle with the security force. They torched many vehicles creating an ugly situation. This led to unrest all around the hills. Very soon the entire district took a deserted look. With today's development, uncertainty looms large and no one knows where is the end of the tunnel.
