The Election Commission has issued a show cause notice to Union Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal on his alleged violation of model code of conduct by his remarks of president's rule in Uttar Pradesh. The Commission has asked him to explain why action should not be initiated against him.
In the notice, the Commission said it is, prima facie, satisfied that Sriprakash Jaiswal by making the remarks attempted to threaten the voters going for polls in 6th and 7th phases to either vote for his party Congress or face imposition of President Rule in Uttar Pradesh.
The Commission has given him time till 2 P.M. on Monday to send his reply.
