<span style="color: #222222;">The Madras High Court has said, the violation of the AICTE norms in exempting the college students from writing their arrear examinations is unacceptable.<br />'' <br />'' The state higher education department exempted the college students last August from appearing for the examinations for their arrear papers for which the fee has been paid.<br />'' <br />'' A batch of petitions were filed in the High Court, challenging the decision saying the decision undermines the quality and credibility of education. During the hearing, the AICTE said the exemption violates the norms of itself and the University Grants Commission.<br />'' <br />'' The state government pleaded that it took the decision in view of the difficulties in holding examinations during the pandemic and the order was issued under the state Disaster Management Act.<br />'' <br />'' When the case came up for further hearing today, the court said the state government cannot take any decision on exempting the students from writing the examinations in violation of the AICTE norms.<br />'' <br />''<br />''The UGC sought more time to respond. The case has been posted for further hearing to November 20th.</span>
