Villages within 10 kms of IB will be developed under BADP: Govt

The Centre has extended the Border Area Development Programme, BADP, to cover all villages which are located within zero to 10 kilometres of the international border. The allocation of funds to the North Eastern States has been increased from 30 per cent to 40 per cent. Representatives of Central Ministries of Rural Development, Sports and Youth Affairs, Health & Family Welfare and Human Resources have been made Members of the empowered committee to ensure implementation of their schemes. <br/><br/>Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju stated this in the Lok Sabha today. In a written answer, he said activities related to the Swatchhta Abhiyan, Skill Development programme and sports have been introduced. Farmers in these areas are being trained in modern techniques of crop cultivation. The involvement of local MPs and MLAs in monitoring BADP has been made mandatory, he said. The total allocation on BADP in the current fiscal is Rs 990 crore.
