In Mizoram, the Village Council-VII of Serchhip district has set a new example while donating a new Maruti Eeco Van making it modified as an Ambulance to the district hospital. The village council is equivalent to a Gram Panchayat.<br />'' <br />''Talking to AIR News, the President of the village council H. Lalthianghlima said they bought the ambulance with money saved from government funds. He informed that the council had received a sum of around Rs 19 lakh from the government under the Excluded Area Fund for specific development works. <br />''<br />''From that fund, however, they saved around Rs six lakh. He said, the council then decided to use this money for buying an ambulance for the local hospital. As the fund was insufficient, the council further took donations from the common public. The Council President said, they were then able to buy a van and it has been modified with the design of an ambulance. Recently, the council handed over the ambulance to the district hospital.<br />'' <br />''<span style="color: #222222;">For this initiative, the Medical Superintendent Dr. Z. D. Lalmuanawma thanked the village council – saying that the ambulance was really essential and it would further strengthen the hospital's services. Mr Lalthianghlima, however, said they are happy to extend this help, which is actually for the service to villagers.</span><br />
