Vilasrao Deshmukh emphasizes on need to strengthen Gram Sabha

The Union Rural Development Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh has emphasized the need to strengthen the Gram Sabha for proper implementation of government schemes meant for rural people. After inaugurating a conference of Project Directors of District Rural Development Agencies, DRDA, Mr. Deshmukh said Centre has decided to depute dedicated man power at Panchayat level . He said posts of Panchayat Development Officer and Junior Engineer will be created. The Minister said there will be zero tolerance for corruption. He said MNREGA is a flag ship programme of the Centre and government want accountability in its corruption free implementation. Mr. Deshmukh said the government has already added Social audit feature to curb the corruption so that people themselves can ask about the funds and their disbursement. AIR correspondent adds that besides MNREGA, the Centre is now focussing on National Rural Livelihood Mission and 41 lakh Self Help Groups, SHGs have been set up. The government wants to ensure at least one member of each rural BPL family gets employment.
