Vikas Gowda keeps India's medal hopes alive in Discus throw at World Athletics Championships

India's Vikas Gowda qualified for the finals at the World Athletics Championships at Daegu, South Korea, in the men's Discus throw event. The 28-year-old US-based Indian record holder threw the disc to a distance of 63.99m in the qualification round to finish fourth in his group and eighth overall on his way to Tuesday's final. This is the first time Gowda has made a global championship final and he becomes the first Indian male athlete, and the fourth Indian, to have entered the final of an individual event in the World championships.
