Star Indian boxer Vijender Singh on Friday slipped from the top spot in the world rankings, ending up eighth in the latest list. But the Olympic bronze-medallist still remains the best-placed from the country across all weight categories. The middle-weight boxer, who is currently in New York for the World Police and Fire Games, has 700 points, courtesy the historic bronze medal he won at the 2009 World Championships. The 25-year-old, who took the top spot in the rankings soon after his Olympic bronze in 2008, has lost it to arch-rival Abbos Atoev of Uzbekistan. Atoev has 1200 points due to the gold he won at the 2009 World Championships, during which he beat Vijender in the semifinals. In other weight categories, Amandeep Singh was ranked 11th in light fly weight (49kg) with 600 points that he notched up after winning the silver medal at the Asian Championships. In the bantam weight 56kg division, Shiva Thapa has risen to 11th with 600 points that he earned after clinching a silver at the Youth World Championships last year.
