On December 16, 1971, chief of Pakistani forces Lieutenant General AAK Niazi, along with 93 thousand troops, surrendered to the allied forces, comprising the Indian Army and the Mukti Bahini, led by Lieutenant General Jagjit Singh Aurora, who was the Eastern Army Commander.<br/><br/>Bangladesh is also celebrating its Victory Day today. This day is a special occasion for the mukti Jjodhdhas who recall their own heroic exploits and also that of their Indian comrades in arms like Albert Ekka during the nine-month-long Liberation War of Bangladesh.The Surrender of Pakistan Armed Forces marked the end of the Bangladesh Liberation War and the creation of Bangla Desh. <br/>'<br/>This year, the Victory Day celebration is more special for Bangladesh with UNESCO recognising The 7 March Speech of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, to a gathering of over 20 lakh people as part of the world's documentary heritage and including it in the Memory of the World International Register.
