Vijay Diwas being celebrated in Kolkata

<span style="color: #222222;">To celebrate the victory of the Indian Army in the 1971 Indo-Pak War and the emergence of independent Bangladesh, historic Vijay Diwas is being celebrated here in Kolkata on Saturday. The program was inaugurated by Lt. Gen. Rana Pratap Kalita, Chief of Army Staff of  Eastern Command. <br />''<br />''A special function was organized at Fort William, the headquarters of the Indian Army's Eastern Command, to commemorate the day. GOC-in-C of Eastern Command along with other regional commanders of tri forces paid tribute to the martyrs by paying homage at the Memorial column. Lt. General Kalita said, India and Bangladesh have an emotional bonding along with historical and geographical linkages. Retired Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha, Retired Indian Army General Shankar Roy Chowdhury and 30 freedom fighters from Bangladesh and 6 serving army officers were present at the Vijay Diwas celebrations this year. A cultural program will also take place at Victoria Memorial this evening as part of the celebration.</span><br />
