Vigilance Court in Thiruvananthapuram posts trial in palmolein oil scam case to 25th of this month

In Kerala, a vigilance court in Thiruvananthapura today posted the trial in the palmolein oil scam case to 25th of this month. Central Vigilance Commissioner P J Thomas is allegedly involved in the case. The move comes following the vacation of the stay on the proceedings by the Supreme Court on Tuesday.The Public Prosecutor informed the court today that the first accused late Chief Minister K Karunakaran was no more and he would file a report in this regard soon. He said official communication from the apex court was yet to be received.The case is about 2.32 crore rupees loss allegedly caused to the state exchequer by palmolein oil import in 1991-92. Karunarakan was then the Chief Minister and P J Thomas was Food Secretary and Kerala State Civil Supplies Corporation Board member.The Kerala government had moved the apex court in December seeking vacation of the stay granted by the latter in 2007. The stay was granted after Karunakaran filed the appeal challenging the trial.
