Keeping in view the general strike called by several organisations in the North-East on the Independence Day, the police in Aizawl have tightened the security. AIR correspondent reports that patrolling has been intensified and high security would be maintained around the venue of the main function on Sunday. The Police have launched a drive to detain suspected persons. A number of banned organisations have given a call for general strike on the Independence Day in the entire region. Vigil along the Indo-Myanmar border has been tightened.In Assam also all preparations have been completed to celebrate the 64th Independence Day. State Revenue Minister Dr. Bhumidhar Barman, who is looking after the functioning of the Chief Minister in absence of Tarun Gogoi, will unfurl the national tricolour at Latashil play ground in Guwahati at 9.00 a.m. tomorrow. AIR correspondent reports that security has been placed on high alert across the state in view of some banned groups’ call for general strike during the Independence Day celebrations. All possible precautionary measures have been taken to thwart the attempt of the underground elements.
