The day-long Vidarba bandh observed today in Vidarba region of Maharastra passed off peacefully barring some stray incidents. The bandh call was given by leaders of various political parties in support of separate state-hood for Vidarba region comprises 11 districts of Maharastra. Nagpur city witnessed stray incidents of stone pelting at a few places while official sources claimed near total bandh in Nagpur rural areas. Educational institutions, commercial establishments remained closed and buses and other modes of public transport stayed off the roads in most parts of the region. Shiv Sena and Raj Thackeray’s MNS did not participate in the bandh. <br/> <br/>In Andhra Pradesh, 24 persons including 13 students were injured on the Osmania University Campus in Hyderabad today when a funeral procession turned violent. State Home Minister Sabitha Reddy told reporters that all the 13 students injured in the lathi charge and the 11 injured police personnel in stone pelting by students have been admitted in hospital. University students were trying to take out a funeral procession of a student who allegedly committed suicide yesterday. Police resorted to lathi charge, firing in the air and tear gas when situation turned violent and students pelted stones.<br/> <br/>Chief Minister K Rosaiah has appealed to the students and asked the police to keep restraint and avoid violence. He also urged leaders of all political parties to rise above party lines and not to instigate students. <br/><br/>Meanwhile, the bandh called by students Joint Action Committee passed off peacefully in rest of the areas in the region. Commuters however faced severe hardships due to cancellation of bus services by the State Public Transport Corporation. <br/><br/>Meanwhile, Congress has condemned the student violence that broke out at the Osmania University campus in Hyderabad. Party spokesman Abhishek Singhvi told reporters that a broad consensus can be arrived at on creation of a separate Telengana state only after peace returns to Andhara Pradesh.<br/>In reply to a question, Mr Singhvi said the government is taking steps to curb the price rise.<br/>
