In Uttar Pradesh, the Election Commission has banned victory processions on the day of counting of votes of the Lok Sabha elections tomorrow. The state Chief Secretary Javed Usmani directed officials to enforce the ban orders strictly.
Usmani also directed that a strict vigil be maintained in all the districts for at least 15 days, or more, after the announcement of the results. Addressing the officials through video conferencing yesterday, Mr Usmani directed them to prevent any tension and violence during the counting of votes and celebrations. AIR correspondent reports that security across the state has been stepped up to prevent any untoward incident.
Meanwhile, in Assam, indefinite curfew has been imposed in Kokrajhar district from 5pm this evening. Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner Nitin Khade said that the decision has been taken as a precautionary measure. On the other hand, victory processions will not be allowed in 11 sensitive districts after the declaration of polls result.
Helicopter surveillance will be on in all the vulnerable areas in Bodoland Territorial Area District and along the Indo- Bhutan border. More than 100 security companies have been deployed in the state. Meanwhile, security forces have recovered a powerful IED in Kokrajhar district.
Kokrajhar SP said, one IED of 5 kilogram have been unearthed last night from the bamboo groove at Jadumoni village under Fakiragram police station. The IED was kept by underground outfit Kamatapur Liberation Organization to carry out subversive activities at railway track. Police apprehended two persons in this connection.
