Vice President terms PMUY a giant step for poor people

Vice President Venkaiah Naidu today handed over the 6 croreth connection to the beneficiary of Prime Minister's Ujjwala Yojana in New Delhi. <br />'' <br />''Speaking on the occasion, Mr Naidu complimented the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas for promoting awareness on the usage of green cooking fuel, LPG through the scheme. <br />'' <br />''He stated that Ujjwala Yojana is probably the world's largest poverty eradication programme. <br />'' <br />''The Vice President added that it is also a step towards empowering people, and boosting self-esteem, and human dignity. <br />'' <br />''He said LPG coverage from the Ujjwala scheme has risen from 55 percent in May 2014 to 90 percent in December last year. <br />'' <br />''He expressed happiness that till December last year, 1.03 crore people have sacrificed their LPG subsidies thereby contributing to the expansion of Ujjwala scheme in poorer sections. <br />'' <br />''<br />''The Vice President also released a Coffee Table Book on Ujjwala at the event.
